Exercises |
1 |
Students swing the kali stick like it is a hammer. Exemplify using the wrist, elbow and shoulder. |
|
2 |
Students draw a circle with the kali stick by twirling the wrist in a circle at their side. |
This can be extended into a hand switch motion. |
3 |
Students do poking motions with the stick. Move forward and backwards. |
In order to properly attack the eyes with the stick, it must be moved laterally. Students will bend their wrist to move the stick parallel to the ground. Once extended, they draw a partial circle with the tip and repeat across the body. Accuracy: Place small squares of colored tape on the wavemasters. Call out colors to thrust at. Can be turned into a memory exercise by saying several colors. |

(Stripe Testing) |
Students practice strikes that go either up or down at 45 degree angles. Practice these with forward and backward steps, as well as striking the wavemasters. Define the targets: Head, body and thigh. |
5 |
Low blocks: Turn the stick to point down, with the supporting(open) hand on the bottom reaching across the body. Mix this with high blocks for strikes. |
|
6 |
Countering: Review blocks, but add counter-attacks after, using the gripping hand to perform a strike after a number of blocks. |
|
7 |
Blocking Thrusting Motions: Using blocking motions to “parry” thrusting attacks away from the body. Students must push incoming attacks away from the body. |
